Do you eat the recommended 5 servings per day of fruit or vegetables? Not many people do. In order to do so you would have to eat a serving of fruit or vegetables with each meal and for your in-between snacks.
It’s not as hard as it sounds though. Here is an easy plan to follow for getting your five daily servings.
For breakfast enjoy some sliced fruit (bananas, strawberries, blueberries, etc.) on your whole grain cereal or oatmeal. Have a glass of unsweetened fruit or vegetable juice.
Have a piece of fruit or fruit salad as a mid-morning snack. An apple would be a good choice. Studies show it is a better choice than coffee for waking you up.
Have at one portion of vegetables with lunch. A salad, mixed vegetables, or a baked potato are all good choices.
For your mid-afternoon snack you can have a fruit smoothie or snack on some dried fruit.
At supper have either one serving of vegetables and a serving of fresh fruit or two servings of vegetables.
Now not only are you eating the recommended amount of fruit and vegetables but you’re eating 5 - 6 times a day. Eating 5 or 6 small meals is also highly recommended for keeping your blood sugar levels even throughout the day.
